Classic Lime Cocktails To Enjoy For Your Next Happy Hour

Limes add a delicious blend of sour and sweet to cocktails, including healthy vitamin C. Here are some classic lime cocktails to create with your extra limes!

Ask any bartender or mixologist, combining sour, sweet, and bitter flavors to make a perfect cocktail is an art form. To achieve the perfect balance, a cocktail needs ingredients to fulfill all of these requirements. And one of the most popular editions is limes.

Limes a blend of sour and sweet that makes some of our favorite cocktails the knockouts they are. Keep reading to learn how to make some of the best lime cocktails! 

A Classic Mojito 

Can we really talk about lime cocktails without mentioning mojitos? For this cocktail you’ll need: 

  • 2 oz. white rum 
  • 1 oz. fresh lime juice (and wedges for garnish) 
  • 2-3 tsp. simple syrup 
  • 5-10 mint leaves 

Put the mint leaves, liquor, and simple syrup in a cocktail shaker and gently muddle the mint. Add ice and shake it—strain and pour over ice and top it off with club soda. Add a lime wheel to the rim and enjoy! 

Moscow Mule

Another classic lime-based alcoholic drink is a Moscow Mule. You don’t need any fancy equipment or copper mugs to make a delicious drink. You’ll need: 

  • 2 oz. vodka 
  • 1.5 oz. fresh lime juice
  • 4 oz. ginger beer 

Combine vodka and lime juice into a glass—add ice and ginger beer and stir. If you’re feeling adventurous, you can experiment with different varieties of limes

Strawberry-Lime Rickey

If you like sweeter cocktails, this strawberry-lime rickey is for you. To make this refreshing summer drink, you’ll need: 

  • ⅔ cup cut strawberries 
  • 2 tsp sugar 
  • Juice from 1 lime 
  • 3 oz. gin 
  • ½ cup club soda 

Mix the strawberries, lime juice, and sugar and gently muddle. Add gin and shake for 30 seconds. Pour through a strainer into two glasses and add ice and club soda.

Cuba Libre 

The Cuba Libre is a simple drink that was a favorite of Ernest Hemingway. To mix this drink, you’ll need:

  • 1 oz. rum 
  • 3 oz. cola (or diet cola) 
  • Juice of ½ of a lime 

Simply mix the ingredients in a glass and add ice. If you want to kick it up a notch, you can add a splash of gin and bitters. 

Midori Sour 

A Midori sour has a perfect blend of sweet and sour and layers of flavor. This cocktail is seeing a rise in popularity. To make this cocktail, you’ll need: 

  • 2 oz. Midori 
  • 4 oz. sweet and sour mix
  • 2 oz. lemon-lime soda
  • 1/2 oz freshly squeezed lime juice
  • Maraschino cherries for garnish 

Pour all of the ingredients in a cocktail shaker with ice. Shake for 10 seconds. Strain and pour over ice into a whiskey glass.
